Speak Up For Your Unborn Sisters & Brothers!

ImageOn July 18, the Judiciary Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives approved the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 3803). This legislation would prohibit the abortion of unborn babies after the point at which scientific evidence shows these tiny humans are able to feel pain. It would also put an end to the current legal situation in the District of Clumbia where it is legal to abort a baby for any reason up until the moment of birth.

Opponents of this legislation must be worried that its approach is so similar to the state bans on the partial-birth abortion procedure which led to a federal ban and two Supreme Court cases ending in a victory for the right to life.

It must also worry the defenders of abortion (the same people who used to dismiss unborn lives as clumps of cells, an argument that no longer work) that technological advances have expanded therapeutic medicine for the unborn patient. These tiny babies can be diagnosed and even operated on while still inside their mothers’ wombs. And when they are operated on, they receive anesthesia seperate from that administered to the mother.

Yes, scientific advancement and time itself are on the side of life! The more we learn about human life in its earliest stages, the more we must acknowledge the humanity of the unborn child.

The gay community should support unborn pain legislation because it humanizes the vulnerable. It is another huge step toward giving a human face to a real human being.

This legislation accentuates our commeness with fetal life and diminishes what sets us apart–size, location, dependence, and level of development. Pro-abortion forces abuse these very features to dehumanize unborn babies.

But gay people are familiar with these tactics. In an affront to our very existence, misguided and sometimes hateful people insists that gays and lesbians are deficient, broken, diseased, and worse…less-than-human.

These categories would sound immediately familiar to a pro-life activist. The unborn human is the on the receiving end of the very same attacks. It is said that their dependency makes them deficient, their existence is treated like a disease to be remedied, and their life is said to be so different from our own that it is, in fact, no life at all.

How can we stand by and allow these lies to perpetuate?

We owe it to the cause of justice to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Call your representative in the U.S. House and tell them you want them to vote on the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 3803) before they leave for their August recess. The National Right to Life Cmmittee provides the best guidelines for this as well as a tool to get your representative’s name and phone number. CLICK HERE
